First win of the season for Oaks Ladies – BOOM!

Oaks Ladies welcomed opposition Rosslyn Park to a very wet, cold and muddy Meyrick Park this Sunday in their fourth league match of the season. After a disappointing start to the season the girls were definitely up for putting some points on the board by giving the away team a Meyrick Park mud facial. The first half saw a lot of slip sliding, dropped balls and an injury to Oaks scrum half Fly McClure.  Ali ‘Monkey’ Chambers stepped up to the plate at number 9 and the ladies started putting tries away. Starting with two strong finishes from Jo Poore, one smashed through the middle and another tucked into the far corner. Helped along by some good running from the backs and cross field kicking from fullback Sofia Luxton, Polly Sanger broke Rosslyn's defensive line from a penalty, with an excellent run to put one over the line. Wind and rain picked up once more and a string of pick-and-goes from the forwards led to a try from captain, Ali Lappin, just before half time.

Rosslyn kicked off the second half and put Oaks under a bit of pressure. Then the new winger, Jas Clarke, broke through from the home team try line to run almost a full pitch and put one right under the posts, which was converted by our new kicker, Sofia. Rosslyn Park put a try of their own on the score board despite some cracking tackles from the Oaks forwards. After the sending off of one of the home team props, scrums went uncontested but even a woman down Oaks scored another try courtesy of Ana ‘The Spanish’ Sacta on the wing. Rosslyn Park stole another 5 points from Oaks despite some quality defensive work from the Bears. Another attempt at the try line by Rosslyn Park was thwarted by Jas who then ran the ball half a pitch for hooker Nat Jeffery to get her first try of the season. With a final score of 37-10 to Oaks, the ladies were happy, tired and very very muddy. Back of the match went to Ali Chambers for great kick penalities and for playing out of position and Ali Lappin got forward of the match for tackiling and turning over ball! Well done ladies!
